*A Georgia Senator is putting any near-future thoughts of a presidential run to rest. Jon Ossoff told CNN during an interview yesterday that he has no interest to run in 2028. The Savannah Morning News reports more than 1,000 people showed up for a rally this weekend in Savannah with Ossoff and Keisha Lance Bottoms, who is the Democratic nominee for governor.
*Four more Georgia federal buildings are in jeopardy of closing. The Public Buildings Reform Board outlined a number of buildings being considered for closure, including the Robert G. Stephens Federal Building in Athens and the Juliette Gordon Low Federal Building in Savannah. Atlanta’s Peachtree Summitt and the IRS Service Center are also part of the list. They’re all considered to be underutilized and potentially in need of repair.
*The sheriff in Towns County is under investigation for possible misconduct. Governor Brian Kemp issued an executive order on Friday to look into Sheriff Ken Henderson. The investigation is separate from an investigation into body cam footage from two-years ago that landed Henderson in hot water. EARLIER STORY. POSTED OCT. 22, 2025: Gov. Brian Kemp has Towns County Sheriff Kenneth Henderson for 60 days after the sheriff arrested a Hiawassee Police officer during a call where a deputy had been shot twice. Body cam video shows the officer was arrested for securing the deputy’s gun. Ultimately it turned out the deputy had shot himself twice in the leg. Charges were dropped against the police officer.
*Visitors to Atlanta for the World Cup are taking advantage of MARTA. The transit authority reports around 220,000 people hopped on MARTA rail last Wednesday, when Morocco took on Haiti at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That’s close to two-and-a-half-times more than normal. In all, MARTA rail customers have totaled roughly 1.7 million since June 11.
*A suspect is in jail on charges connected to a deadly shooting at a northeast Georgia church. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at Bethel Baptist Church in Maysville Saturday night, where a man was shot and killed.
