The City of Gainesville, Georgia‘s First Friday Concert Series returns for July, but with a patriotic twist and a different location.
Since the concert falls on Independence Day weekend, for one time only, it will move from the square to the Midland Greenway amphitheater starting at 7:00. Headliner Fly Betty Band’s performance, will be followed by a fireworks display about 9:30.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Fly Betty Band, Atlanta’s favorite dance and party band, and enhancing the First Friday Concert experience by ending the night with a spectacular fireworks show in the heart of Gainesville,” said Special Events Manager Karen Diaz, with the Gainesville Tourism Department. “And even with the concert temporarily moving to the Midland Greenway, attendees will have the opportunity to get their favorite bites and beverages from downtown businesses before boarding the COOLbus shuttle to attend what we hope will be a truly memorable holiday for individuals, couples and families alike.”
The summer concert series continues monthly through September and there is no charge for any of the events.
“When the City invests time and resources into organizing an event for the public, we of course want residents and visitors to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather and the company of others, but also all that their community offers — and in this case, all that downtown Gainesville has to offer,” Diaz said. “We hope everyone will have something positive to take away from the experience — that attendees will enjoy the event and make good memories, and that business owners will see an increase in foot traffic and profits.”
In addition to the Fly Betty Band performance and fireworks, Caleb Carver will perform a preshow from 4:00-6:00, about the time participating food trucks open.
“Fly Betty Band is the BEST party band in Atlanta. From the first note to the last, we play ALL dance and party music from the ’70s to current radio hits,” according to the band’s website, flybettyband.com. “All we want is for you to have a great time and have a night that you will remember!”
Tents are prohibited and a playground and dog park are nearby.
Gainesville employees will be offering free water (just bring your own bottle/cup), city-branded freebies and selling limited edition Fourth of July-themed First Friday T-shirts at the Explore Gainesville tent, plus patriotic light-up wands.
The City will offer complimentary shuttle service using its COOLbuses, picking up and dropping off concertgoers at the Main Street deck from 4-11 p.m. Those at the Midland Greenway wishing to return to the Main Street or other decks may board the COOLbus at the crosswalk mural in front of the High Street trail entrance. Service animals only aboard the COOLbus.
