Echols named to committee on preserving family farms

Sen. Drew Echols (R-Gainesville) has been named to a Senate committee that is charged with seeking ways to preserve Georgia’s family farms.

The Joint Study Committee on Generational Sustainability of Family Farms was created by Senate Resolution 800 and includes both legislative members and the state’s agriculture commissioner.

The Moultrie Observer reports the committee will evaluate challenges facing Georgia’s family farms — such as economic pressures, rising input costs, declining farmer numbers, and mental health impacts — and recommend policy solutions to support farm sustainability, develop domestic markets, and prepare the next generation of farmers.

It is due to report its findings and recommendations by Dec. 1, 2027.
