North Ga.: Severe thunderstorm risk today, tonight

Scattered afternoon storms are expected to develop this afternoon in north Georgia, with the potential for an “organized line” of storms to move through the area during the evening to early overnight hours.

In a Monday morning advisory, the National Weather Service (NWS) said a few storms may be severe (Level 2 of 5), with a primary threat of large hail and damaging wind gusts, “though a brief tornado is also possible.” Localized flash flooding is also possible.

The area of concern is along and north of a line from Athens to Atlanta to Carrollton.
