STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:
(“Saturday morning about $7:45), a trooper from the Gainesville Post of the Georgia State Patrol responded to the intersection of Gaines Mill Road and West Dennis Drive in Hall County to investigate a traffic crash.
Upon arrival, the investigating trooper determined a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Daniel Mendoza, 19, of Gainesville, was traveling east on Gaines Mill Road. Mr. Mendoza failed to maintain his lane and crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic.
Mendoza struck the left side of a Nissan Murano, which was driven by Daniela Melendez, 23, of Gainesville, with the left side of his vehicle.
The Murano came to an uncontrolled final rest on the north shoulder of Gaines Mill Road. Mendoza continued eastbound where he ran off the roadway onto the north shoulder, struck an embankment and vaulted over part of West Dennis Drive. The Tahoe then traveled onto the north shoulder of West Dennis Drive where it struck a power pole.
Melendez was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Mendoza was evaluated on scene by Hall County EMS, however, he refused transport.
Mr. Mendoza was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Lane.
Gaines Mill Road was shut down for approximately six hours as Jackson EMC worked to restore power and move power lines to allow the Chevrolet Tahoe to be recovered.”
