Another day, another new development in the sheriff’s case

For the second day in a row, there was a new development Friday in the DUI case facing suspended Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch.

Thursday, it was revealed that Couch was in the company of a convicted DUI driver with whom he has had a relationship when he was arrested on a traffic charge in Dawson County recently. The sheriff’s attorney, Blake Poole, noted in response that Couch is no longer in that relationship and “does not associate with anyone he believes to be a convicted felon, and any suggestion that he has done so is false.” Poole has also emphasized that he was not DUI at the time of his second arrest.

Then, Friday it was revealed that a court filing by prosecutors claims he had been diagnosed with dangerous levels of alcohol intoxication less than 24 hours before his first arrest.  That action was taken after Poole filed a motion to suppress much of the state’s evidence.
