Pair charged with stealing items worth thousands from S. Hall business

Hall County authorities have arrested two men they believe to be responsible for thefts earlier this month from several work vehicles at a South Hall business.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) learned of the thefts when the owner of Supreme Sign Services LLC on New Bethany Road reported the incidents to a sheriff’s deputy May 18.

The business owner reported he had security video from the night before that showed a man on the property, entering four trucks and stealing tools and other items from the vehicles. A second person, driving a white utility truck, pulled up to the front of the business about 25 minutes later. The first suspect loaded stolen items into the truck and both suspects left the scene.

The deputy turned the case over to sheriff’s office detectives. During the course of their investigation, property crimes investigators linked David Lee Johnson, Jr., 44, of Auburn and Douglas Todd Stephens, 56, of Hoschton to the crimes. Investigators obtained arrest warrants for the pair on May 22.

Officers with the Suwanee Police Department took the suspects into custody during a traffic stop in their jurisdiction and turned them over to HCSO custody May 25. Johnson was charged with four counts of entering auto and one count of criminal damage to property in the second degree. He remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond. Stephens was arrested on four counts of party to a crime. He posted a bond of $22,800 and was released from custody.

Business owners continue to assess their losses, but the latest estimate indicates Johnson stole a total of more than $4,000 worth of tools and supplies from the four vehicles.”
