A Newnan man remained in the Hall County Jail early Monday afternoon following his arrest last week after authorities say he fled a traffic accident on Thompson Bridge Road, only to be injured and try to flee on foot after he “rolled” his car several times.
HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:
Andrew Bradley Thompson, 37, was charged with several traffic offenses, including DUI of multiple substances, failure to maintain lane, passing in a no passing zone, making a prohibited U-turn and driving with a suspended license. He also was charged with one count of misdemeanor obstruction of an officer and two counts of felony obstruction of a criminal investigation. Thompson was charged as a habitual violator, which is a felony offense.
According to an investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Accident Investigation Unit (AIU), Thompson was traveling northbound on Thompson Bridge Road just after 3 a.m. Thursday…
An off-duty Flowery Branch Police Department officer was driving behind Thompson and noticed the offender was having difficulty maintaining his lane of travel. Thompson pulled over just north of Lanier Elementary School in an apparent attempt to allow the officer to pass. When the officer did not pass, Thompson made an unauthorized U-turn and began to flee southbound on Thompson Bridge.
The officer followed and located the vehicle, which had crashed and rolled over several times, near Fairmont Street. Thompson had exited his vehicle and was running on foot down an embankment and into the woods. An HCSO K-9 team arrived at the scene and located Thompson in the woods. Initially, Thompson was unconscious, but when he became responsive, he then became combative, actively resisting deputies, kicking at them and using rocks as weapons. One HCSO deputy sustained an injury to his hand as a result.
Thompson was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville for treatment of injuries sustained in the vehicle crash. He was booked at the Hall County Jail on Friday… At last check, Thompson remains in custody with a bond of $27,640.
