Dahlonega tops list of Georgia’s ‘picture-perfect’ towns

Dahlonega tops a new list of small towns in Georgia which the authors say look like movie sets.

“These 6 charming towns offer beautiful streets and amazing small-town charm!” they write for familydestinationsguide.com.

So, what do they have to say about Dahlonega?

“You know what’s better than finding gold? Finding a town that looks like it jumped straight out of a storybook. Dahlonega sits in the North Georgia mountains (in Lumpkin County, site of the country’s first gold rush )like a little jewel box.

The downtown square makes you feel like you’ve traveled back in time. Old brick buildings line the streets with colorful awnings and flower boxes. The town square centers around a beautiful old courthouse that’s been standing for ages.

You can walk the whole downtown in about twenty minutes, but you’ll want to stay all day. Little shops sell everything from homemade fudge to handmade crafts.

The streets are made of brick, and they actually make a nice clicking sound when you walk on them. It’s like the town is saying hello with every step.

Mountains surround the whole area, giving you views that belong on postcards. In the fall, the leaves turn colors that would make a painter jealous.

Spring brings flowers that pop up everywhere like nature’s confetti.

And, by the way, all five of the six towns on that list are in our corner of the state. The others are Blue Ridge, Ellijay, Ball Ground, and Tallulah Falls. The only exception is south Georgia’s Thomasville.
