UPDATE: Local non-profit loses $2,000+ through apparent mail intercept

A Gainesville non-profit that caters to the area’s homeless is hundreds of dollars poorer after a check for more than $2,000 apparently fell into the wrong hands.

As we noted in an earlier story, Good News at Noon reported the theft to Gainesville Police last week.

“A check written in the amount of $2,745.00 was cashed at a bank, the check was originally written to a vendor to pay and invoice and was mailed,” police spokesman Kevin Holbrook said. “The check appeared to have been intercepted and cashed fraudulently.”
