Most of state now either ‘extremely’ or exceptionally’ dry; level of Lanier up a bit

The drought tightened its grip on Georgia even more the past week with a big majority of the state now suffering from either “extremely” (red) or “exceptionally” (brown) dry conditions. The map from Thursday’s update from the U.S. Drought Monitor tells the story.

It was just a few days ago that the weather service declared:

“Georgia is facing its most significant drought since 2011–2012. We’ve officially entered record-breaking territory. “

As for the level of Lake Lanier, it actually increased by a tenth of a foot the past week and is now at 1066.1.
