*A new agreement between Valdosta State University (VSU) and Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) has been created to help students become teachers faster. David Slykhuis, the Dean of VSU’s college of education, tells WCTV the program aims to also help the lack of under credentialed teachers. SRTC graduates with an Associate of Science in Education can transfer more of their credits toward VSU’s Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Elementary Education. Slykhuis says the new partnership is designed to make getting a degree in education more convenient.
*A former south Georgia teacher is facing child sex crimes involving a student. Danielle Weaver turned herself in to the Lee County sheriff’s office Wednesday morning on charges of child molestation and sexual assault by a teacher. WALB reports the GBI has been investigating allegations of inappropriate contact between Weaver and a Lee County High School student since earlier this month.
*Applications for the inaugural class of the University of Georgia (UGA) School of Medicine are now being taken. Recruitment of the first class comes after the school received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education on Feb. 13. (SOURCE: UGA)
*A new report released Tuesday by the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) ranks four metro Atlanta highway interchanges among the top 10 worst bottlenecks in the country. According to the report, some of the most congested stretches include: I-75 in McDonough, I-285 at I-85 North, I-75 at I-285 North. and -20 at I-285 West. (SOURCE: ATRI)
