Violent domestic incident in public ends with Gainesville man’s arrest

A domestic incident played out in the parking lot of a Baldwin convenience store earlier this week ended with the arrest of a Gainesville man.

According to Baldwin Police, it happened late Tuesday afternoon at the Circle K on Georgia 365. Police got a call for what was initially described as “a motor vehicle crash,” according to a police department news release.

BALDWIN POLICE NEWS RELEASE:

“…Upon arrival, officers were informed that a male driver, Balmer Alexis Melgar Ayala (29, Gainesville) used the 2014 Nissan Sentra he was driving as a weapon and intentionally rammed another vehicle in the parking lot. The vehicle Melgar Ayala struck was a 2015 Ford F-150. The F-150 was occupied at the time by a 29-year-old female, who was identified as Melgar Ayala’s spouse.

As a result of the crash, the victim was pinned in the vehicle by Melgar Ayala’s vehicle, restricting her freedom of movement. The victim was eventually able to pull her truck forward and exit the vehicle.

According to the victim and witnesses, Melgar Ayala exited the vehicle with a hammer following the crash. Melgar Ayala began striking both vehicles and shattering most of the windows out of both vehicles. The victim fled the vehicle and moved to a safer location with other bystanders.

Melgar Ayala was detained upon law enforcement’s arrival and later arrested…

No one was injured during the series of incidents.
