Hall Co. official to head Barrow water department

Bill King has been named the first director of the newly-created Barrow County Water Resources Department.

The department, which previously reported as a division under Barrow County Public Works, was created as part of a larger countywide reorganization effort.

“Bill brings more than three decades’ worth of experience to Barrow County, with expertise in water and sewer collection and distribution systems and experience serving in local government,” said Srikanth Yamala, Barrow County Manager. “We are excited about the opportunity this change provides to strengthen leadership focus, improve coordination, and continue expanding and improving Barrow County’s water and wastewater systems in support of our growing community.”

King currently serves as Assistant Public Works Director for Hall County and previously served as City Engineer and Assistant Public Works Director for the City of Cartersville and Director of Public Works for the City of Commerce, where he oversaw more than 7,000 water and sewer customers.

King holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Georgia Tech and is a licensed Professional Engineer and Georgia Water Distribution System Operator.

He will assume his role February 23.
