Groundhogs: 2-to-1 for more winter

Two of the three groundhogs we follow each year on Groundhog Day predicted more winter Monday.

Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil and Georgia’s Beauregard Lee each saw their shadows, meaning, according to legend, six more weeks of winter. But White County’s Yonah did not, signaling an early Spring, something welcomed by this Facebook post from a Gainesville resident: “Yonah is closer to where we live so imma go with His decision…”

So, now that the groundhogs have spoken, what do the weather forecasters say. We’ll, here’s what the folks at the National Weather Service say – at least for February: Precipitation and temperatures both about 40 percent “below” normal. So, it would seem the experts agree with Phil and Lee. For what it’s worth.
