Habersham EMC says it may be Tuesday before internet service is fully restored in Habersham County.
“Crews have been able to get back out into the field this afternoon,” the electric co-op said in a statement issued Sunday. “We are expecting to get a large majority, of the approximately 300 without internet service, back on today.
“Due to the conditions and areas, we need to get to, with the equipment we need to utilize, there will be customers that come back online Monday and finally Tuesday.”
And the statement offered some insight into what makes restoring the service such a time-consuming and delicate process. “The tolerance with fiber leaves little room for error. The splices must be precise and detailed to allow the light to move through unobstructed.”
And there was this footnote: “As always the safety of our employees and contractors come first. We won’t compromise safety. Thank you as always for your patience and understanding.”
