HCSO: Icy roads blamed for five accidents Tuesday

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) investigated five traffic accidents Tuesday that a spokeswoman says are blamed on icy roads.

One occurred on Mount Salem Road and resulted in a dispute between two neighbors. In that instance, B.J. Williams says, a car left the road and ended up in the yard of a house. Williams said the homeowner told sheriff’s deputies the accident damaged his lawn and the driver refused to pay for it. The driver said that was not the case and had offered to pay for it, but the complainant refused to discuss the matter further. Deputies told the pair this was a “civil” case and there were no arrests made or charges filed.

An accident happened on Blackjack Road when a vehicle slid on a patch of ice and collided with a fence. The driver was not injured.

Likewise, there were no injuries in a crash on Dawsonville Highway near Duckett Mill Road when the driver swerved to miss an icy patch but lost control and ended up in a ditch.

Another accident happened in that same area on Dawsonville Highway. A motorist said she was trying to avoid a vehicle moving into her lane to avoid the ice, but she slid and hit a retaining wall. She was not injured.

And on I-985 between Exits 22 and 24, the driver of an SUV said a “large chunk” of ice flew off a truck in front of him, cracking his windshield. He was not injured.
