A Gainesville man was arrested early today after Oakwood police officers saw two pickups drag racing on Atlanta Highway about 5:45.
“Officers observed a white Ford F150 and a red pick-up truck (side by side) at the intersection of Atlanta Highway northbound and Thurmon Tanner Parkway,” spokesman Stewart Webb said.
“When the traffic light on Atlanta Highway northbound turned green, both vehicles accelerated to a high rate of speed, racing on Atlanta Highway towards Frontage Road.”
He added that the driver of the F150, later identified as Jose Castaneda, 22, at a speed of about 80-miles-an-hour in a 45-mile-an-hour zone, made an erratic left turn onto Tumbling Creek and was arrested when the vehicle stopped.
“The driver of the red truck did stop but later fled the area,” Lt. Webb said.
