A Flowery Branch man remains in the Hall County Jail following a series of incidents Thursday morning in a South Hall neighborhood, including a traffic accident, a burglary and several attempted vehicle thefts.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“Around 8 a.m., deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to a residence on Tuggle Drive to investigate what was first believed to be a home invasion. A 911 caller reported someone wearing a yellow bag on his head was trying to break into the front door of her home. The male suspect also was looking in the windows of the house and screaming. The suspect, later identified as Lewis Clinton Miles, 56, attempted to enter the caller’s vehicle and golf cart, but was unsuccessful. Miles also took a pizza oven from the porch of the residence.
Deputies determined Miles went to a neighboring house where he broke into a shed on the property and stole a vehicle. He drove the stolen vehicle a short distance before becoming stuck in the mud. He then walked to another residence where he loitered on the property before walking to a fourth residence in the neighborhood. At that residence, he entered another vehicle in an apparent attempt to steal the vehicle. Deputies made contact with Miles inside the vehicle. When Miles refused to exit the vehicle, deputies deployed a Taser to subdue Miles and arrest him.
The investigation further determined Miles had been involved in a single-vehicle accident on Old Lanier Islands Drive near New Bethany Road prior to the incidents on Tuggle Drive. Miles was driving a Chevrolet SUV and apparently lost control of the vehicle, exiting the road, driving through a cemetery and into a retention pond.
Miles faces the following charges:
- Criminal attempt to steal a motor vehicle – felony (four counts)
- Theft by taking motor vehicle – felony
- Second-degree burglary – felony
- Criminal damage to property – felony
- Criminal trespass
- Theft by taking less than $1,500
- Loitering or prowling
