The Gainesville City Council Tuesday night formally set May 19 as the date for a special election to fill the vacancy on the council left by the death last year of Danny Dunagan. Qualifying will take place March 2-4. The winner of the election will serve the remainder Dunagan’s term which will expire Dec. 31, 2029.
The council also voted in favor of an Intergovernmental Agreement with Gwinnett County for emergency water service. City Attorney Abb Hayes says it means that should Gainesville have a water crisis it would be able to tie onto Gwinnett’s to get water to city customers and vice versa.
