HCSO: ‘Drive Sober’ campaign underway

The state’s annual Christmas/NewYear campaign against impaired drivers, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, is underway and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is again participating and has warned that there will be no warnings only tickets for motorists who are stopped and found to be DUI.

HCSO NEWS RELEASE:

“The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is joining state and local law enforcement across Georgia
who are increasing DUI enforcement during the holiday season with the goal of saving lives
by preventing crashes caused by selfish drunk and drugged drivers. State troopers,
sheriff’s deputies and police officers across the state always have a zero tolerance for drunk
and drugged driving.

Zero tolerance means any driver found on the road with a Blood-Alcohol Concentration
(BAC) level of .08 or higher will be arrested. No warnings will be given, and no one will be
allowed to call a relative or friend to give them a ride. The only ride drunk and drugged
drivers receive is a ride to jail.

“One of the hardest parts of the job in law enforcement is having to tell a family, especially
during the holidays, that a loved one will not be coming home because of a crash that was
completely preventable,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Jeremy Cooksey said.
“That is why we work every day to take drunk and drugged drivers off the road because
every driver that is arrested is potentially one life that we have saved.”
