Lula Rd. Update: 3 injured, none seriously

6:55 P.M. UPDATE:

Three people escaped serious injury early Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision on Lula Road that the state patrol says was caused by traveling too fast for conditions.

STATE PATROL NARRATIVE: (EDITED FOR CLARITY)

“The investigation determined that a Ford Ranger, driven by a 16-year-old, was traveling west on Lula Rd.

While negotiating a curve, the 16 year old was driving too fast for the wet roadway conditions and began to lose control. As a result, the Ranger traveled across the centerline and struck a westbound Honda Odyssey van driven by Teresa Sellers, 73, of Mt Airy.

After the impact, the Ranger came to rest in the roadway while the Odyssey traveled off of the north shoulder and into a ditch.

The 16 year old , and the passenger in the Odyssey, Joe Sellers, 78, of Mt Airy were transported from the scene by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  Mrs. Sellers had a complaint of injury.

The 16 year old was cited for Driving Too Fast for Conditions.”

2:15 P.M. UPDATE:

The road has reopened.
