Study: Unauthorized immigrant population in Hall Co. now 27,000

The unauthorized immigrant population (UIP) in Hall County stands at 27,000, according to a recent study by the Migration Policy Institute (MPI). Georgia’s is nearly 500,000 – with Hall, Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb and Gwinnett the top five counties when it comes to unauthorized immigrant population.

The study also found that the country’s UIP has grown sharply in recent years and has now reached 13.7 million as of mid-2023, following more than a decade of stagnation. Still, nearly half of this population, 45 percent, had lived in the country for 20 years or more, with 80 percent having at least five years of residence.

Amid this growth in the unauthorized immigrant population, which is up 3 million since 2019, has
come diversification, with rising numbers from South America and the Caribbean in particular.
