One of two Furkids cats missing following wreck located

FURKIDS NEWS RELEASE:

After agonizing days, Birch has been returned home!

Birch was successfully trapped earlier this week around…and was immediately taken to Veterinary Emergency Group to confirm his identity via microchip and to be thoroughly checked out. Birch was a bit dehydrated and had an elevated temp, but after receiving fluids and care – he’s now safely back with his foster, where he’ll be closely monitored and reunited with his siblings soon.

The moment he felt human touch again was unforgettable.. he couldn’t stop rubbing his little face and body against everyone, soaking up every bit of love he’s been missing. It’s truly remarkable to think about this brave boy’s journey over the past week, and we are beyond thrilled to have him back with us.

We’re extending our deepest gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the search and rescue of our missing kittens – Furkids volunteers Tina Walden & Lisa Merkin, fosters Jennifer Louten and her husband, Linda Fleming, and Luvy for consulting with us. We are also thankful for all of you animal lovers and the local community for sharing this story and keeping an eye out for our missing kittens, and simply caring about their fates.

The search continues for Strawberry Shortcake, who has not been sighted since the crash. We are extending our search radius to try and locate her, and we will leave no stone unturned in the search for her. We’re asking the community to please continue to remain vigilant and contact us immediately if you see her…”

Birch and Strawberry Shortcake were in a Furkids van headed to another no-kill shelter in Vermont when it was involved in that multi-vehicle wreck in Jackson County earlier this month that claimed the lives of eight people.
