*The local impact of the government shutdown in Georgia is minimal for those not working in the federal government. Fox5Atlanta reports mail services and airports will continue to operate as usual. National parks in Georgia will largely be open but services may not be available. Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security benefits will not be affected for the near future, but WIC benefits could be affected if the shutdown lasts weeks. The shutdown may impact federally funded projects, but SNAP benefits for October are secure. Longer wait times for customer service may occur due to staff furloughs, and as much as 60% of CDC employees in Atlanta could be furloughed.
*The average SAT score in Georgia is still above the national number. The Peach State’s mean score of 1029 came out more than 30-points ahead. It marked the eighth straight time that Georgia’s score was higher. Participating for the state has risen five percent from a year ago.
*(SRN NEWS/AP) – The wait continues for Georgia farmers who need more aid after Hurricane Helene, even as state and federal officials in other states announce agreements. But the announcement wasn’t accompanied by a finalized agreement on how the state is going to hand out the money. The delays are frustrating Georgia farmers, who have operated for a year without making up losses not covered by insurance or other assistance.
