HCSO NARRATIVE:
“Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Investigations Unit (SIU) have charged a Gainesville woman with defrauding an elderly victim in her care. Donna Lasha Woodard, 54, faces charges of financial transaction card theft, financial transaction card fraud and exploitation of an elderly person, all felony offenses.
Law enforcement first became aware of the crimes on February 25…when the son of the 94-year-old victim contacted HCSO. Since that date, the investigation determined Ms. Woodard had used the victim’s bank cards to make a series of fraudulent purchases between January 10 and February 17 of this year. The investigation determined the fraudulent charges totaled just over $10,000.
The victim was in the hospital during the time of the thefts. Ms. Woodard had been an in-home caregiver for the victim for the last three years.
HCSO Warrant Service Unit deputies arrested Ms. Woodard on Monday… She posted a bond of $17,100 and was released from custody the same day.”
