Meanwhile, Executive Director Rebecca Thurman there are days when it feels like the agency is trying to “balance on a seesaw during an earthquake.”
Referring to mixed signals coming out of Washington and Atlanta,Thurman writes in the food bank’s current news letter “Lately, the ground has been shifting more than usual. The political climate is unpredictable, administrative priorities are constantly in flux, and programs that families rely on seem to be up for debate more often than they’re strengthened.
“Every shift at the federal or state level sends ripples—sometimes waves—through our work. One day we’re told to prepare for expanded funding, the next we’re bracing for cuts. It’s whiplash.
“And in the middle of all this instability are the people we serve—seniors, children, parents working two jobs—just trying to get through the day without going hungry. They don’t have the luxury of waiting for policy to settle. Their need is now.
“This work is not just about food. It’s about justice, dignity, and care.”
