Scholarship for GHA resident; Additional title for Forsyth Co. sheriff; Gville meeting to focus on Ga. tourism

 *Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) resident David Islas is the recipient of a 2025 HAI Group Resident Scholarship that goes to further his college education. Since 2003, HAI Group, which provides insurance programs to the public and affordable housing industry, has awarded more than two million dollars to public and affordable housing residents to help defray the cost of higher education.

*Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman is the new President of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association. Freeman, who has been sheriff in Forsyth County since 2017, was installed during the group’s recent annual meeting.

*A newly-formed state legislative committee charged with studying ways to boost tourism in Georgia will hold its first meeting Thursday in Gainesville. The Study Committee on Making Georgia the No. 1 State for Tourism will meet at 9:00 at The Boathouse at Lake Lanier, located at the Lake Lanier Olympic Park on Clarks Bridge Road.
