An Atlanta man, accused several months ago of conning a Gainesville family out of money in a college recruiting scam, has apparently been at it again, this time in Virginia.
YORK-POQUOSON SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE:
“On March 12, 2025, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a citizen who reported that an individual had scammed them out of more than $20,000.
The suspect posed as a high school football recruiter and told the victim that he could help the victim’s son obtain a college football scholarship. The suspect was to set up recruiting visits to colleges, create recruiting videos of the victim’s son, and arrange travel to college football seminars. The suspect never provided any of these services and eventually stopped communicating with the victim.
Sheriff’s Office Investigators were assigned to this case and learned that the suspect had committed these crimes in several states along the East Coast. Sheriff’s Office Investigators obtained a felony warrant for the suspect, and he was arrested in Georgia. The suspect was taken into custody and returned to York County on July 31, 2025.
Suspect: Malcolm Xavier Walker, age 40, Atlanta, Georgia
Charge- Larceny by False Pretense -Felony
Malcolm Xavier Walker is currently incarcerated in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.”
