CITY OF GAINESVILLE NEWS RELEASE:
“In celebration of the Gainesville Chicken Festival’s 20th anniversary, the City of Gainesville is starting the egg-splosion of fun early by opening its inaugural Gainesville Chicken Festival Sticker Design Contest to the Gainesville-Hall County community.
The contest, FREE to enter, is open to all – children, teens and adults. The winning design(s), which should represent the Gainesville Chicken Festival, will be printed and distributed to the public at the 2025 Gainesville Chicken Festival and via the Gainesville Welcome Center. The winner(s) will also receive free entry into the 2025 festival for themselves and two guests.
The design – whether hand-drawn, painted, created digitally, etc. – should be representative of the Gainesville Chicken Festival or the City’s famed status as “Poultry Capital of the World.” Think back to when the Gainesville Chicken Festival first started in 2005; your favorite part(s) about/offerings at the festival; and/or the most memorable, mouthwatering bites. Consider the backdrop – Lake Lanier Olympic Park, past venues (the historic square in downtown Gainesville and Longwood Park), the wing-eating and cook-off contests, participating cook teams, judges, etc. Think outside the box and focus on how Gainesville came to be known as the “Poultry Capital of the World.”
Designs should be crafted while keeping in mind the diameter of most City stickers is no larger than 3.5 inches (circular) or 5 inches (rectangular). While larger artworks can be scaled down, note that smaller details may not translate as well or at all. Designs may be any shape – circular, square, rectangular, triangular, vertical or horizontal – and can include as many colors as desired.
Participants may use whatever materials they wish: crayons, colored pencils, chalk, markers, paints, pastels, watercolors, a combination of these, etc. Or get creative and repurpose construction or wrapping papers, recycled magazines or newspapers – whatever you can get your hands on! This contest is also open to those who prefer to express themselves through graphic design, photography, etc.
Please note that by entering any works into this contest, the artist understands they are giving the City permission to reproduce their artwork for printing and promotional purposes. As stickers will be free to those who want one, the artist will not be compensated, even if the City chooses to reprint the stickers after the Gainesville Chicken Festival or in the future – we may love it that much! Of course, any work that is reprinted or used for promotional purposes will be properly credited.
With your submission(s), please include your full name (first and last), age, city of residence and telephone number or email address. Artists must be residents of Gainesville-Hall County. The winner(s) will be announced the week before the Gainesville Chicken Festival, so entries must be received by no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. This will give City staff enough time to appropriately judge all entries, then have the top design(s) ordered.
Entries may be dropped off in person any time from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Gainesville Welcome Center in suite 100 of the Gainesville Administration Building, located at 300 Henry Ward Way, Gainesville; mailed to the Gainesville Public Relations Department, attn: Public Relations Director Christina Santee-Moss, P.O. Box 2496, Gainesville, GA 30503; or sent electronically via Messenger to the official City of Gainesville, Georgia (@GainesvilleGeorgiaGovernment) Facebook page.
The City has great egg-spectations and wishes all artists the “best of cluck” – we can’t wait to see all your beautiful and creative works of art!
And mark your calendars now to attend the 2025 Gainesville Chicken Festival, slated for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Lake Lanier Olympic Park.”
