The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a new scam that has arisen over the past week.
A letter from the “Tax Processing Unit, Internal Processing Service, Habersham County Public Judgement Records” is making the rounds with a final demand for payment of taxes to the “Federal Tax Authorities”.
The letter sent through the U.S. Postal Service gives an 800- number and a deadline to call that is roughly two weeks from the date of the letter.
Even the “Habersham County Commissioner” received one of the scam letters.
If you receive a letter like this, do not engage with the sender or any telephone number or email address provided.
Instead, if you believe you owe money to the federal government, (contact) the IRS.
