The drought which has been steadily increasing in coverage area in Georgia the past few weeks grew by another 20 percent this past week.
The counties affected by it include all or parts of several in the immediate Gainesville area: Hall, Lumpkin, Dawson, Gwinnett, Barrow, Jackson and Banks.
The largest concentrations of drought-plagued counties are in southeast Georgia, where the severity of the dry weather has worsened in some counties since last Thursday, and in central and east central portions of the state.
