*Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is beginning a statewide listening tour in her campaign to become Georgia’s next governor. Bottoms is calling the tour the “Standing Up for Georgia Tour.” The tour will start today in DeKalb County, where Bottoms will meet with CDC workers affected by recent layoffs. Fox 5 reports that Bottoms aims to discuss her plans to make the state more affordable with community leaders and citizens. She has raised $1.1 million for her campaign and will face competition in the Democratic primary from state Sen. Jason Esteves, state Rep. Derrick Jackson, and Atlanta pastor Olu Brown.
*A Georgia city councilman is facing DUI and other charges. WSAV reports Dan Bennett was arrested in Reidsville Tuesday for reckless driving and speeding following a crash. The mayor posted on social media that Bennett was also involved in a crash in early May.
*A check fraud scheme is being shut down in Monroe County. At least 50 people across multiple states were recently arrested for allegedly forging checks. Investigators in Operation Fall Guy say at least 20 people took part in a scheme to use household chemicals to remove information and create checks for much larger amounts. Around 20 arrests have been made.
