ATC shortage; Protecting inmates; Trump’s support waning?

*A new congressional report reveals a significant staffing shortage in the air traffic control (ATC) tower at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with staffing levels 17% below full capacity. Aviation expert Kit Darby tells ANF he is concerned about the impact of understaffing on safety and fatigue levels of controllers. Documents show the Federal Aviation Administration has only hired about two-thirds of the controllers projected from 2013 to 2023, leading to calls for improvements in hiring, training, scheduling, and fatigue management.

*The Clarke County sheriff’s office is vowing to do more to protect the safety of inmates. Chief Deputy Frank Woods told WSB-TV yesterday that their priorities cover welfare checks, maintenance and education classes at the jail. This comes after four inmate deaths in Athens-Clarke County since April. Two of those deaths are considered to be drug-related.

*Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is cautioning the Trump administration over potentially waning support. The Republican posted on X yesterday that the base is going to turn if Trump isn’t transparent and doesn’t release files about Jeffrey Epstein. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have been pushing to have the files released, but Speaker of the House Mike Johnson sent them home for a month-long break yesterday. Georgia’s NAACP president told WSB-TV that Trump had the MLK assassination files released Monday as a distraction.
