In just a couple of weeks, students in the Gainesville and Hall County public schools will be back in the classroom.
The highlight this year is the opening of the county’s newest school: Everwood Elementary, which is a consolidation of Oakwood and McEver elementary schools.
Here’s a breakdown of what to expect in the city school system:
First day for students – August 5
Expected first day enrollment – 8,550
How much of an increase/decrease over last year – 100+
New schools opening – none
Major over-the-summer additions/repairs/renovations – none
Open house – Open House July 31st and August 1st

And for the county:
First day for students: Friday, August 1.
Expected first day enrollment: Once the dust settles after week 1 we anticipate enrollment to be between 27,000-28,000 students.
Expected increase/decrease: Neither, about the same
New schools opening: Everwood Elementary School
Major over-the-summer additions/repairs/renovations: Ongoing construction at NHHS and JHS (New Auxiliary Gyms and more classrooms; NHHS will have new admin offices). These projects will not be ready until later in the school year. Relocating World Language Academy temporarily (2 yrs) to the Oakwood Elementary Campus while the new school is being built.

Middle School Open House: July 29, 4 to 7pm
High school open house: July 28, 4 to 7 Pm
