Several counties in the Gainesville area are showing signs of drought for the first time in several weeks, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM).
They are Dawson, Lumpkin, Barrow, and Jackson. Hall County remains drought-free. For the second week in a row, these other northeast Georgia counties are also experiencing drought: Hart, Madison, Franklin, and Elert.
Drought conditions have also return to the Cartersville, Bainbridge, and Griffin areas.
Drought-free parts of Georgia decreased by nearly ten percent the past seven days.
