Gville native killed in N.C. traffic accident

A Gainesville native who had lived in Atlantic Beach, N.C., the past 15 years has been killed in a traffic accident in North Carolina.

Details of the crash that took the life of Bucky Springle, 78, were not immediately available but it happened in Moorehead City, N.C., and involved only one vehicle, according to his obituary.

Springle, a graduate of Gainesville High and the University of Georgia, served as editor of the now-defunct Gainesville Tribune for several years until 1974 when he began a 35-year career in real estate.

He was an avid golfer who played in the Georgia State Amateur and the Georgia State Open tournaments but after moving to Atlantic Beach in 2010, ocean fishing took up much of his free time and he once finished second in the annual Atlantic Beach King Mackerel Tournament.
