GPB radio stations in Ga. bracing for end of federal funding

Two Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) radio stations in the immediate Gainesville area along with other publicly funded radio and TV stations around the country will no longer receive federal funding under an executive order signed late Thursday by President Trump.

The president said he was taking the action, which he had threatened since returning to office in January, to stop what he called “biased and partisan news coverage.”

Georgia has 30 radio and television channels affiliated with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Those in the Gainesville area are WNGU-FM in Dahlonega and WPPR-FM in Cleveland.

WABE in Atlanta has already cut jobs twice this year after the potential loss of funding was announced, according to the AJC. In November, it ended jobs for nine staffers, and six jobs were cut in April.
