When Denise Jordan became an employee of the City of Gainesville, 9/11 hadn’t happened, the Soviet Union was breaking up, and George H.W. Bush was in the White House. Now, 35 years later, Denise Jordan, has retired, having spent the last 25 years as City Clerk. Her last day on the job was Friday.
But earlier in the month, the Mayor and City Council formally recognized her as retirement day approached.
Special presentations included:
*Senate Resolution 364 by senators Drew Echols of the 49th district, Bo Hatchett of the 50th, Clint Dixon of the 45th, Shawn Still of the 48th and Russ Goodman of the 8th, among others, recognizing and commending Jordan for her decades of service
*Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) representatives Pete Pyrzenski and Pam Helton reading aloud and presenting Jordan with the GMA Lifetime Service Award
*Mayor Pro Tem Zack Thompson and fellow Council members giving Jordan heartfelt well wishes and a token of appreciation
Jordan started with the City in July 1990 as Records Clerk for the police department. From there, she was promoted to Senior Secretary in February 1992, before taking on the role of City Clerk in February 2000.
As a surprise to her, Jordan accepted these accolades before friends and family, who watched on from the audience.
Deputy City Clerk Alisa Grayson has been chosen as her successor.
