JEMC: Out with the old, in with the new

Jackson EMC is introducing a new way to save energy: something called Sync to Save.

In a letter to its member-consumers, the electric co-op thanks those who are a part of its current energy-saving efforts. The Load Management Program which regulates power consumption by electric water heaters and central air conditioners has been in effect for a number of years, but it will end May 31. That’s when Sync to Save will kick in.

It’s a new “voluntary demand response program” using “smart” thermostats that reward members for reducing electricity use during periods of high demand. Enrollment begins in May with more details to follow, according to the letter.
