Oakwood Police arrested a man on public indecency charges this week but, they say, not before he kept resisting over and over again. It finally took several officers, Lt. Stewart Webb said Friday, to bring Olvin Estrada-Vareva, 33, under control and get him in a squad car.
OAKWOOD POLICE NARRATIVE:
“…Wednesday (about midnight), Officer Baker was on routine patrol driving through the parking lot of the Quality Inn located at 3467 Mundy Mill Rd, Oakwood Georgia. Officer Baker witnessed a Hispanic male with a dark colored jacket and red/silver shorts go inside the dumpster corral and urinate. The suspect saw Officer Baker and attempted to hide behind the dumpster. (Attempt #1)
Officer Baker waited for the suspect to exit from behind the dumpster and attempted to detain him. Officer Baker observed that the suspect was unsteady on his feet and appeared to be under the influence of alcoholic beverages…. The suspect refused to comply with Officer Bakers commands (Attempt #2) and continued to walk away (Attempt#3). When Officer Baker grabbed the suspect to place him under arrest, the suspect physically resisted (Attempt #4) and was taken to the ground. Officer Baker was able to get the suspect secured in handcuffs.
As Officer Baker was walking the suspect to his vehicle, the suspect stopped and attempted to twist his body away from Officer Baker (Attempt #5). Officer Baker and the suspect fell to the ground. Additional officers arrived on scene and assisted with getting the suspect secured in Officer Baker’s police vehicle.
The suspect was transported to the Hall County Jail…”
Olvin Estrada-Vareva is charged with public indecency, obstruction-resisting an officer; and public drunkenness.
A sheriff’s office spokesman said Friday bond was $2,110, which was posted, but he has an “immigration hold,” so he remains in jail.
