The accident on I-985 that crippled rush hour traffic for a time Tuesday afternoon was the result of one vehicle re-ending another but there were no serious injuries according to the state patrol.
GEORGIA STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:
“On March 11, 2025, at 4:49 PM, a Trooper from Post-6 Gainesville responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-985.
Upon investigation, it was determined that a Hyundai Elantra, driven by John Lovejoy (21) of Lawrenceville, GA was traveling north on I-985 and following too close behind a Subaru WRX, driven by a 16 year old female of Dacula, GA. This resulted in the Hyundai striking the Subaru in the rear with the front of the Hyundai, causing disabling damage to both vehicles.
Both drivers had a complaint of injury and Mr. Lovejoy was cited for Following Too Closely.”
This accident, coupled with a roadside brush fire about a mile away, combined to make it an especially agonizing rush hour for many motorists.
