*For the second time in less than a week, protests were held Tuesday in downtown Gainesville outside the office of Congressman Andrew Clyde. Last week, demonstrators were there to protest the methods being used by the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the man who heads it, Elon Musk. Tuesday’s gathering was to call on the Jackson County Republican to hold a town hall meeting, something not uncommon with many members of Congress.
*After city officials announced late last week that the city council would b voting Tuesday night on a plan to charge for on-street parking on some downtown Gainesville streets, there was no vote on the matter. A spokeswoman for City Hall said late Tuesday afternoon, without explanation, that the item had been removed from the agenda.
