A civil rights suit has been filed by three former workers against Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) and three other medical groups.
The suit, filed in U.S. District Court, alleges that the defendants undermined the plaintiffs’ practices, made baseless claims about their fitness for duty, and retaliated against them after they reported they were being discriminated against for their Indian heritage.
NGHS responded to the suit through statement from its attorney. ““Given this is active litigation, we are not in a position to comment and look forward to contesting the claims in court,” Andria Lure Ryan said. “We value the diversity of our employees and stand behind NGHS policies that the organization complies with applicable Federal and State civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, sex or any other basis protected by law.”
The plaintiffs are Kapil Pareek, Jyoti Manekar and Anisha Patel, who allege that the problems they encountered at NGHS continued when their practices were transferred to Northside Hospital and Georgia Urology, who are also named in the suit. The fourth defendant is Northeast Georgia Physicians Group, an arm of NGHS.
