Gville teen arrested after police chase; facing DUI, nine more charges

A Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy arrested a Gainesville teenager earlier this week on DUI and other charges, including fleeing and attempting to elude.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“On Tuesday…around 10:15 p.m., the deputy was leaving Chicopee Woods Elementary School where he had been conducting a routine check of the school grounds. As he left the property, he observed a silver Nissan sedan traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Calvary Church Road. The deputy followed, calculating the vehicle’s speed at 85 mph in a 45 mph zone. He also observed the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Kenny Alexander Garcia Perez, 17, driving outside of the lane of travel.

The deputy activated his lights and siren, attempting to stop the driver, but Mr. Perez fled. The offender turned off his vehicle lights as the pursuit continued northbound on Calvary Church Road. He then ran off the road, striking a mailbox and damaging his tires. Mr. Perez continued driving, spinning out in a grassy area near the Circle K on Calvary Church Road at Candler Road.

The deputy detained Mr. Perez at the scene, charging him with 10 misdemeanor offenses: DUI-alcohol/less safe, underage consumption/possession of alcohol, open container violation, driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, headlights and other lights required, windshield tint violation, license to be carried and exhibited on command and hit and run. Mr. Perez also was charged with felony fleeing/attempting to elude.

Mr. Perez remains in the Hall County Jail (as of Thursday) on a bond of $14,260.”
