A bipartisan coalition of senators voted Tuesday to confirm Gainesville’s Doug Collins to serve as the secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Georgia Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock joined 22 other Democrats and all Republicans in confirming the former congressman and Baptist minister who was one of President Trump’s staunchest supporters during his two impeachment hearings.
Trump nominated Collins for the VA post shortly after winning a second term in the White House in November. His Senate confirmation hearing was held last month, but his Senate confirmation vote was delayed until after Trump’s inauguration because the FBI had not completed its background check paperwork on him.
