Even as one of the driving economic forces in his district, the poultry industry, braces itself for potential adverse fallout from President Trump’s tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada, 9th District Congressman Andrew Clyde, a staunch supporter of the president, is standing by him.
“President Trump’s goal with these tariffs is simple: Make America Safe Again,” the Jackson County Republican said in a newsletter Monday. “This latest bold action shows President Trump’s dedication to wielding powerful leverage to put our well-being and national security first.
“After all, hundreds of Americans die from fentanyl every single day. China plays a major role in this tragic drug epidemic, with the Chinese Communist Party directly subsidizing the manufacturing and export of illicit fentanyl materials. Mexican drug cartels notoriously traffic fentanyl and other dangerous drugs into our country. There is also growing production of fentanyl in Canada, with a number of Mexican cartels expanding operations into our neighbor to the north due to its porous border.”
Clyde also, as he and others have done often the last few years, put much of the blame for the need for tariffs on the man who just left the White House, saying that the Mexican and Canadian borders have also “been flooded with illegal aliens for the last four years under the Biden-Harris Administration, including dangerous criminals and suspected terrorists.
“Undoubtedly, Mexico, Canada, and Communist China all bear responsibility in poisoning and endangering the American people. Now, President Trump is holding them accountable.”
