* In celebration of 2025 Georgia Cities Week April 20-26, sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association, the City of Gainesville is starting the fun early by opening its inaugural Georgia Cities Week Postcard Design Contest to children and teens ages 5-17. The winning design, which should represent Gainesville, will be used as an official City of Gainesville postcard distributed to the public at City events and via the Gainesville Welcome Center. Complete rules and other information can be found on the city’s website.

*The cause for an early morning fire in White County Friday remained a mystery Sunday. The White County Public Safety Department said the blaze was reported about 3:45. It destroyed a building housing an auto repair shop on River Estates Road. A person in an adjacent apartment, who was not injured, reported the fire. One firefighter was treated on the scene for undisclosed minor injuries.
