Mountain Judicial Circuit judge dies

A memorial service will be held Saturday for a judge of the Mountain Judicial Circuit who died Tuesday. Judge Rusty Smith was 61.

The service for Smith, who lived in Tallullah Falls, will be held at 3:00 at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Toccoa.

Smith had served as a judge of the circuit since 2010. He was a former County Attorney for Stephens County.

The circuit will be losing another Superior Court Judge today with the already announced planned retirement of Judge B. Chan Caudell.
