SCOGA uphold conviction, sentence given gunman in Hall deputy’s death

The Supreme Court of Georgia (SCOGA) Tuesday upheld the conviction and life sentence given the young man charged with shooting and killing a Hall County deputy sheriff several years ago.

Hector Garcia-Solis, who was 17 at the time of the incident, was convicted of malice murder and other crimes connected to the death of Blane Dixon in the early morning hours July 7, 2019, when Dixon and other deputies confronted several burglary suspects in a Gainesville neighborhood.

The high court rejected Garcia-Solis’ contention that the evidence was “insufficient to sustain his conviction for malice murder because no evidence was presented at trial to show any express or implied malice on his part in causing Dixon’s death,” that the trial court erred in denying his motion for a change of venue, and abused its discretion by sentencing him to life without the possibility of parole.

The court’s 29-page decision was unanimous.
